Modern Mods at the Hot Rod Shop
While what attracts car enthusiasts to hot rods hasn't changed over the years, the way we build them up has. In the past, restorers were mostly concerned with how quickly a hot rod could accelerate and to what speed. Today, the hot rod aftermarket offers many exciting upgrades beyond the engine. These upgrades can enhance the overall driving performance of your hot rod, and the following are a few of our favorite modern mods that we offer at our hot rod shop:

- Disc brakes. Until the 1960s, most hot rods came outfitted with drum brakes on all four wheels. In the decades following, many hot rod models had these cheaper brakes only on their two rear wheels. While drum brakes were adequate back then, modern hot rods should be modified to include a full set of disc brakes, which are more powerful with faster, safer stopping power. This is especially important for hot rod owners in the South, as drum brakes are easily damaged by heat and moisture.
- Sway bars. Early hot rods were rated on their ability to move quickly on a straight line, so they weren't equipped with strong cornering or general handling abilities. Sway bars are a must for hot rod owners who want a vehicle that handles well both on the drag and off. Sway bars work well with full suspension mods, as they give the suspension better flex by keeping the chassis even.
- Springs and shocks. Installing a spring and shock combo will greatly improve the handling of your classic hot rod. Our hot rod shop team uses performance springs, which resist the weight transfer that occurs when a vehicle corners or hard brakes and therefore allow the driver more control and confidence during aggressive driving conditions. Quality springs also reduce the vehicle's center of gravity to minimize body roll. In tandem with these springs, a performance-oriented pair of shocks will dampen action and offer an improved driving experience. With springs and shocks, prices range from under $100 to over $1000. Our hot rod shop will help you find the right set-up for your vehicle, preferred driving experience, and budget.
