Classic Trucks: The New Trend in Hot Rod Restoration
When it comes to hot rod restoration, many people focus on classic coupes and sedans that are already designed to look good and go fast. Here at Customs & Hot Rods of Andice, most of our clientele bring in vintage cars they want fully restored and made ready both for the showroom and the road. However, just because we get a lot of hot rod restoration requests for cars doesn't mean this is the only type of vehicle that makes for a great overhaul. One of the biggest trends we've seen over the last couple years is a growing number of people wanting their favorite classic trucks restored both in looks and functionality.
Classic Trucks & Hot Rod Restoration
We love trucks because of their multi-functionality, and they're an outstanding choice for those who want to get involved in hot rod restoration but don't want the extra expense that can sometimes go into vintage sedan and coupe restorations. On a whole, hot rodding trucks are a much more economical build thanks to a ready supply of original and reproduction parts.
Current popular choices for hot rod truck restoration include Chevy and Ford pickup models ranging from the late '70s to mid-'80s. A good pick for those new to the hot rod game are Chevy S-10s. Their design allows for easy engine swaps that gives owners the greater amount of power they want in a build. S-10s have quite the same classic look as older models, but they are a great beginner choice and offer a lot of design flexibility.
You can also go back further than the '70s to find some outstanding models for restoration. One of our shop favorites is this 1956 Ford F-100, with those classic curves and that low stance that begs to be shown off and driven around town. We accentuated those curves with a body modification known as the Gentleman's Chop, which reduces the rearward slopping of the vehicle's roof to accentuate its rounder design elements. We also added an Art Morrison Chassis with Roush Racing motor -- only the best American parts for a classic American truck like this -- and an independent front suspension. The result is a truck that purrs and feels outstanding out on the road.
