4 First Class Cars Everyone Ought to Drool Over

Several years ago, marketing researcher David Gal published an interesting study entitled, "A Mouthwatering Prospect: Salivation to Material Reward" in the Journal of Consumer Research. The study found that men literally drooled over the images of first class sports cars. Unfortunately, Gal didn't list out which first class cars he used in the study. The following is a look at a few of some of the classiest and sexiest cars of all time.

4 First Class Cars Everyone Ought to
Drool Over

  1. The Original Mustang, aka the '64-1/2. The first of the Mustangs, the '64-1/2 boasted one of the most successful new vehicle debuts in history with over 1.4 million sold by 1966. The vehicle featured what is now known as the classic American muscle car look, sold only as a coupe or two-door convertible and featuring a large engine compartment perfect for hot rod enthusiasts to tinker with. It also possesses a classic exterior with chrome wrap-around bumpers and chrome grille topped with the iconic running mustang. It was one of the best performing vehicles of its era and continues to be a prized possession of many a classic car enthusiast.
  2. Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing. Debuting in 1954, the Gullwing is quite possibly the most iconic of Mercedes-Benz vehicles. In fact, this is the model that transformed the auto manufacturer's reputation from one known for producing dull, yet reliable cars to a brand boasting some of the fastest, most luxurious first class cars around. The Gullwing SL was the first production car to utilize direct fuel injection and was a legendary racecar capable of achieving top speeds of 160 miles per hour. Perhaps the most notable aspect of the 300SL Gullwing was its doors. This was the first vehicle to feature doors that opened up rather than out.
  3. Jaguar E-Type. Upon its initial release in March 1961, Enzo Ferrari himself allegedly named this British sports car "the most beautiful car ever made." Only a few of the Jaguar E-Types were released to the public. It was this scarcity along with its beauty and high-performance capabilities that made it as hot of a pick then as it is now. This gorgeous car took its main cues from Jaguar's D-Type racecar which won the famed 24 Hours of Le Mans three years in a row; proving it was designed with both speed and beauty in mind.
  4. Duesenberg Model J. Dusenberg was an American manufacturer of luxury automobiles based in the Midwest. They lasted for less than 25 years, yet produced some of the most stunning vehicles ever to exist. If they hadn't been hit so hard by the Great Depression, there is no doubt that Dusenberg would have continued on to become a household name. Their 1929 Model J was a first class car way ahead of its time, boasting 265 horsepower, a dual-overhead camshaft, and straight eight-cylinder engine that made it a powerhorse during its day. It's a vehicle that perfectly eclipsed the excitement and grandiosity of the roaring 20s.
