3 Vintage Cadillac Models Worth Drooling Over
When it comes to luxury automakers, what model has a better, more renown history and reputation than Cadillac? Founded back in 1902 by engineer Henry M. Leland and financial backers William Murphy and Lemuel Bowen, the Cadillac brand now has well over a century of successes under its belt. Of course, some models are more desirable than others. The following is a look at some of our favorite vintage Cadillac models -- the ones that we are always eager to see come through our shop:
3 Vintage Cadillac Models Worth Drooling Over
- 1930-1937 Cadillac Sixteen. Known officially as the Cadillac V-16, this was the automaker's top-of-the-line model for the decade it was in production -- which was 1930 to 1940. Unfortunately, it was released during the Great Depression and thus its sales never reached what they might have had it been released in any other decade. Today, however, many automotive enthusiasts recognize it as one of the finest automobiles of the prewar era. This is due to how flawlessly this model meshed performance with luxury aesthetics. The last generation of the model features the new L-head V-16 engine that produced 185 horsepower and was renown for being nearly silent at idle.
- 1953-1966 Cadillac Eldorado. The 1959 Cadillac Eldorado was a particularly gorgeous and standout production year for this model. That's because for this year, Cadillac engineers went all out with styling, giving the car new sharp and oversized tailfins, twin-bullet taillights, and a grille that had a very jewel-like appearance. This is one of those vintage Cadillac models that always draws the eye. In fact, a fantastically restored 1959 vintage Cadillac Eldorado took home the 2019 Ridler Award at this year's Detroit Auto Show. This was the same award our CHRA team won back in 2016 with the restored Billy Thomas' 1939 Olds Convertible -- not a vintage Cadillac but still a gorgeous vintage model!
- First Generation 1940 & 1941 Cadillac Series 62. This gorgeous model was just one of the many brain childs of famed automotive designer Harley J. Earl. This model featured a low and sleek torpedo body style with chrome window reveals, running boards and a unique, stylish grille. 5,903 models were sold in the first year and a whopping 24,734 in the next. This was simply a model that once seen, everyone wanted -- including Hollywood hot list stars like Jean Harlow and infamous gangsters like Al Capone. Today, those looking for this vintage Cadillac model can readily find units available on places like eBay and at local auction houses in varying stages of restoration.
